I really wanted to give a better rating, because I liked many things about it, but I will try to be as objective as possible. We are a family with a 2-year old kid. Our stay is relatively long (vacation). We chose this accommodation mainly because of the impression it is family-friendly. The comments like hearing the neighbors, etc (which is true) didn't bother us that much. We booked a "superior" room. The staff at the reception treated us well as we arrived. Also they were very helpful in answering our questions. Similarly the room service team was very professional and still friendly. They understood what a family with little kids might need. However, due to the fact that the room fridge is very small and offers only limited cooling capacity, some food items either went bad, or were impossible to fit in the fridge. For example the baby milk went bad a couple of times. Therefore we requested some milk to feed it before going to bed. At first the staff responded in a friendly way, but later (two of them) became very reluctant in answering our needs. It is true we could have kept some items in the big fridge at the hall, which we did already, but it is different when it comes to baby milk. We simply expected either a better and larger fridge, or a more attentive staff at the reception. When faced with the same situation before at a different accommodation, they replaced the fridge immediately. Long story short: following our experience, the hotel is not as family-friendly as we expected. I would not recommend it for long stays. For the price, the "superior" room is not worth it. Paying more than 1,400€, we didn't think getting some warm baby milk would be that complicated. That said, we did enjoy the terrace and the hall area. Half of the staff at the reception were very helpful and professional. The location was very central.….
I stayed at the Chic & Basic Velvet Hotel in Barcelona and it was far from satisfactory. The room was exceptionally small and although some staff members were nice, there were some who were quite rude. On the second night, the card I had to open the door to the room wouldn't work, so I went downstairs to talk to the man and he tutted and gave me a new one, which still didn't work. Turns out the batteries in the door had gone. We were told to wait in the communal area for about 10 or 15 minutes before I went upstairs to the room and found him fiddling around with the door, and he ushered us through without so much as an apology. There was no fridge or kettle in the room, not even a pillow chocolate, and for the price they charged it was far less than basic. All in all, I was massively disappointed.
We had a great stay at Chic & Basic Velvet for our first time visiting Barcelona. The rooms were a bit small but cozy and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, with an assortment of Spanish meats, sausages, and sweet cakes. We never had to take public transportation since we were able to walk everywhere. We would definitely recommend Chic & Basic Velvet to anyone visiting this amazing city.
Not too mention the blood stains on the bed linen. To wrap it up, we were more than disappointed for our stay at Chic & Basic Velvet.
I've heard a lot of great reviews about Chic & Basic Velvet, but I regret to inform that it's not what it's portrayed to be. The room insonorization is mediocre, and we heard everything from people walking in the corridor to someone drying their hair. Not to mention, the heat was unbearable; the air conditioning only provided a light breeze of air. To make matters worse, I experienced an unpleasant weed smell entering my room. Furthermore, the cleaning ladies started to clean the rooms without any warning or consideration to my presence at 9:20am. The hotel was quite dark and didn't seem to be large enough to accommodate those who may have an issue with claustrophobia. To add insult to injury, there were some blood stains on the bedsheet. All things considering, I was deeply disappointed with my stay at this hotel.
had to extend our stay. All in all, for a short stay a good value for the price.
I stayed 3 nights at the Chic & Basic Velvet and was pleasantly surprised by the level of service provided. The room was simple, but spotlessly clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. Wi-Fi worked well and it was easy to stay connected during my stay. I was surprised by the lack of natural light in the room, but the soundproofing was adequate. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful with the changes to my booking and the breakfast was varied and delicious. Overall, this hotel was great value for money and perfect for my short stay in the city.
