Stayed at a Superior family room when traveling with my children during the Christmas holidays. Check in was good as we were given key codes, however, the smell of cigarette smoke in the room was quite strong. On arrival, the room we were given was not the one we had booked. It also looked dirty and there were cigarette remains in the bathroom. I contacted the manager but she only said the situation would be fixed in the morning. As I had a festive dinner planned with relatives living nearby, I agreed to wait. In the morning, a lady appeared and proposed splitting us into two rooms. These sounded more appropriate than the first one, but still had smudges on the armchair and curtains, as well as some mold in the bathroom. While I was away from Barcelona, I received a message that stated I had to change rooms again for my last night stay. This seemed outrageous and I asked for a triple room instead, but was only offered two rooms next to each other. Because I had traveled with children, I had no other choice but to agree. Then the manager insisted I had to leave the room and get an older one which was supposedly cleaner. Not wanting to cause more trouble, I decided to book an extra night in a nearby hotel to share with my kids. Definitely not a great experience and not at all boutique-like. Be smart and book your stays wisely!
