I had the misfortune of staying at the Alberguinn Hotel in Barcelona. Though it wasn't my first choice and the booking was done at the last minute, I had to pay 120 Euros for a bed in the 12 bed dormitory. The location of the hotel is near the Sants station but quite far away from areas of interest. Additionally, the hotel is located on the first floor and there is no elevator/lift, which can be a problem if you have heavy luggage. I didn't like several aspects of the hotel; most prominent being the absence of the 'hostel vibes' and the reception staff which was not helpful and friendly. To make matters worse, my dorm had a group of five who were very noisy. There is an obvious need for a specific group policy for dorms. The AC in the room was not working and the windows had to be opened for ventilation, thereby leading to noise from the street - in particular the garbage van late at night. The beds are creaky, the mattress too spongy and the overall appearance of the room is very depressing and dingy. In conclusion, an overall very poor stay.
