We absolutely loved our stay at the Catalonia Magdalenes in Barcelona! The room and amenities were modern, spotless and well thought out. The bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was top notch. What's more, the location could not have been better. We were centrally located in the Gothic District - close to many of the sights we wanted to see, yet a block or two away from the main streets, so it was always nice and peaceful. The breakfast was amazing, with plenty of variety and outstanding quality, both hot and cold. On top of that, the staff was wonderful and spoke excellent English. Simo made us feel so welcome and was incredibly helpful in suggesting restaurants and even helping us find an ATM. We really enjoyed his smiles and jokes, he is such a great ambassador for the hotel, as are all of the other staff members. We strongly recommend Catalonia Magdalenes to anyone visiting Barcelona - we had an amazing five nights here and can't wait to come back!

Great location in the Gothic quarter. Very clean, well serviced rooms (with one small exception mentioned later). Excellent breakfast with all the hot and cold options anyone could reasonably ask for. Eggs cooked to order, smoked salmon, cheeses, meats, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts etc etc. Only small point is one coffee making machine which took an age and gave only average coffee. My wife took the Cava on occasion! Reception fine, although €450 taken prior to arrival on my credit card which I had used to secure the booking. I wanted to pay via debit card for everything and avoid money transfer fees. Water in reception which however disappeared at night, which is when we wanted it, to dilute the alcohol intake, so not sure why this happened. Main issue with the room was that both the shower and the toilet were housed in opaque glass. Not really an embarrassment issue for me and my wife, but if going to the toilet in the night, the whole room was lit up, not just the loo. Pool on roof fine, but water still very cold in 28 degree heat. The entire rooftop bar only served drinks in plastic, which was for me really off-putting, and so not used much. A lot of this was well away from the actual pool, and we have been to two other hotels in Malaga and Alicanti this year where this was not the case. Also no nibbles provided with the drinks. It seems this is prevalent in Barcelona as a whole, unlike most of the rest of Spain. We paid just over €360 per night for a 7 night stay. A little to expensive for what we got. Still very good. Oh the housekeeping issue was the fact that there was a small leak from under the shower onto the bathroom area. We did not report it as it was obvious we thought to anyone servicing the room. We would still potentially stay again if visiting Barcelona, just be aware of the small points mentioned,...

Everything about the Catalonia Magdalenes Hotel in Barcelona was perfect - from its location to its cleanliness, reception, housekeeping, and roof-top pool and bar! Not only that, but the staff were truly amazing and deserve all the credit for making our daughter's 21st birthday stay such a memorable one.

We recently stayed for 4 nights and were very satisfied with our decision. The staff was friendly and the hotel was immaculately clean. On the rooftop, there is a bar with excellent mojitos and old-fashioned cocktails. There is a small gym and spa, complete with loungers and a cool jacuzzi (towels provided). A steam room is also available. Our room was modern and equipped with a coffee machine (with good quality pods), a kettle, a mini-bar, and a free safe. The bathroom had a great shower, scented toiletries, a hairdryer, and weighing scales (they weren't used, but they could be useful for weighing suitcases). Note that there are no dressing gowns. The location is perfect for tourist activities, while still being on a quiet street. We don't want to leave and will definitely visit again, and have already recommended this place to others.
