The front desk clerk at this hotel was extremely unprofessional and confrontational. She completely ruined my stay with one simple request for extra towels. I attempted to leave a review, however, the hotel would not allow me to actually post it. With people like (this clerk) working here, this hotel should not be considered as an option for any prospective tourists. Enrique, who works here, is incredibly welcoming and friendly; however, it would be better if he were on staff at a more suitable venue. As such, I strongly encourage people to choose a different hotel.
My experience at this hotel was far from satisfactory. From the pictures, I had expected much more. My room was dark and dingy and the staff were unhelpful and disinterested. There was only one bottle of water which wasn't renewed during my five-day stay and the disposable cup it came in wasn't even thrown away. Breakfast was very unremarkable and the staff had a distinct 'who cares?' attitude. The only perk was the hotel's closeness to the old gothic area, but I could have stayed at Le Ramblas and had much more convenience. On my next visit to Barcelona, I will certainly know better and look for a different place to stay.
We booked our stay here for two nights and were pleased to find excellent customer service at the front desk. They were kind enough to store our bags before check in and also after we checked out. We were able to get a bit more comfortable by getting an iron and an extra blanket. Being close to the shops and restaurants in the area was a wonderful perk, as well as the close proximity to the Picasso museum. The room was as pictured and had a nice balcony overlooking the main street. We did find that the bathroom was nice and large, however, there was no soap holder by the sink. We chose to take advantage of the great food options nearby and did not eat at the hotel. We would definitely come back and stay again.
This place definitely does not deserve a 4 star rating. Despite the great location - close to restaurants, a store, pharmacy, subway, and bus stations - there are many issues with the accommodation. From noise from both other residents and cleaning staff to problems with the AC and other appliances, as well as the fact that neither shampoo nor conditioner was provided, this hotel was not worth its price. The staff were not especially helpful either, as they did not help me with my bag or show me to my room. On top of that, the check in lady treated me like a criminal when I asked if breakfast was included in my stay. If you don't mind all of these issues, then this place is fine, but if you're particular about your hotel choices, it's best to look elsewhere in El Born.
The location of the Hotel Ciutadella Barcelona was ideal for us. Not only was it conveniently located, but I felt very safe walking around, even early in the morning. The staff were very friendly and professional, helping us with all of our needs. We enjoyed the breakfast every day and it was a pleasant experience - it was nothing special, but it was above satisfactory. The shower was a bit tricky as it drained slowly, making it very slippery and contributing to a lot of flooding in the bathroom. However, the beds were comfortable, and I appreciated them having an extra pillow in the armoire if needed. All in all, it was a pleasant stay.
