This hotel is in a great location, just a few minutes away from the iconic cathedral and the hop on hop off bus. The rooms may be small but they are spotless, with a lovely bathroom. Moreover, there is a great bakery just across the street and a plethora of cafés down the street. The price is definitely worth it; the people at the front desk are exemplary, being both knowledgeable and helpful. Overall, I would definitely come back here.
I stayed here for a four night stay and had an unpromising arrival. The person at the reception desk was very sour-faced, refusing to make eye contact or smile. The room was dim and compact, there was no décor, no extras, and even the fridge was empty. There were no tea or coffee-making facilities, and the only complimentary bottle of water was offered only on the first day. When I asked for another, I was told I had to buy one from a vending machine. The elevators were painfully slow and stuffy. On the plus side, the location was great and the breakfast staff were friendly, towels were clean, and the shower gel was passable. The interior was bleak and the atmosphere oppressive, and reception staff were unfriendly (the lanky man with dark, hanging hair). Disappointingly, even water was not provided each day. The facilities for the price were terrible. It felt more like a Travelodge in the city centre.
My wife and I stayed at Hotel Gótico for 3 nights as part of a tour group of ten couples to celebrate April St George’s day. The room size was a bit small but just enough for two people, including the closet. There's a buffet breakfast at the hotel, however there are other cheaper options nearby for lighter meals. Where the hotel really shines is its location; it's so convenient being next to the subway and walking distance from La Rambla, Plaza de Jaume, La Sagrada Família, and a great Gelato shop just in front. Unfortunately, during our stay, our room keys were deactivated while we were out on a local tour because our tour agency didn't include the local hotel tourist tax in the cost. Though the right thing for the hotel to do would have been to simply inform us of the tax and we would have paid it, they decided to lock us out of our room, which was a humiliating experience. When we went to the desk to discuss the key issue they said they didn't deactivate them (maybe because we kept our keys too close to a cellphone, etc). In order to reactivate our room keys we were made to pay the fee. Despite this bad customer service experience, I can still recommend the hotel for its great location.
I stayed at Hotel Gótico recently and was incredibly disappointed. Despite the fact that the room was large, it was outdated and did not match the advertised 4 star rating. We requested a double bed and were given three single beds instead, with the sheets having a strong, musty smell and even blonde hairs on one of them. The towels were unappealingly dingy white and the mirror was rusted. Furthermore, the toilet had obviously not been sanitised and there were no slippers provided for us to use. Also, when the heating was switched on, it filled the room with a strange and unpleasant odour. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

We had a great time during our stay.
I stayed at Hotel Gótico with my partner and were thrilled with it. The outside does not do justice to the inside - the room was spotless and well-kept. The staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for us, always on hand with advice on the best places to visit and getting us a great deal on tickets and taxis. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it to all.
