My relatives from New Jersey (USA) had a regrettable experience during their stay at the Ibis Barcelona Meridiana Hotel. On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, while they were out of the room, $600 was stolen from a wallet that had been left on one of the shelves. To make matters worse, the rooms in this hotel do not have a safe. That same day, we went to the local police station in Barcelona to file a complaint. The most disappointing part of this whole situation was the attitude of the supposed person in charge of the hotel. Not only was he arrogant and rude, but he also showed no empathy towards us as guests. He did not apologize on behalf of the hotel and made no effort to investigate what had happened. In fact, he even insinuated that our complaint was false in an attempt to avoid any responsibility. While everyone is entitled to handle situations as they see fit, I cannot recommend this hotel at all. We have also filed a complaint with the Ministry of Industry and Consumer Affairs of the Generalitat of Catalonia and have reached out to the management of the Accor chain.
During our five-day honeymoon stopover in Barcelona, we had a wonderful and unforgettable experience. The hotel's location near a metro station and a mall made it convenient for us to get around. Although the breakfast buffet had a limited selection, the food was fresh. The hotel staff were friendly, and we were particularly grateful to Chaimae and lamiae for their kind assistance. It was our first time visiting, but definitely not our last.
The accommodation was situated slightly away from the typical tourist attractions, however I would still choose to book a stay there again. The premises were maintained to a high standard, providing all the necessary amenities for a comfortable trip. Although they do not offer laundry services, there is a self-service laundry centre within walking distance. Furthermore, the close proximity to a metro/train station allows for easy transportation to any part of the city. Additionally, there are a variety of restaurants and a supermarket located just outside the hotel, making it convenient for grocery shopping or dining out. The hotel staff were welcoming and helpful, contributing to a pleasant experience. My only advice would be to wear a mask in the lobby if you are sensitive to strong scents that may occasionally be present.
This accommodation was at the more affordable end for Barcelona, which doesn't mean it was inexpensive, just cheaper than the majority of hotels in this expensive city. For the rate of around £169/night during our stay, we were somewhat disappointed. The bedsheet had a noticeable tear in it, while the desk had clear splatters from a previous guest and the shower had long hairs in it. Additionally, there were no facial tissues supplied in the room and a number of satellite TV channels were unavailable on the small monitor. On the positive side, the front desk staff were always welcoming and quick to react. In the lobby, there was an area for dining and drinking. There was also a shopping mall close by with plenty of eating and shopping options. Although it was not in the heart of the city, there were Metro stations within around 10 minutes' walk and the main attractions were 30-40 minutes away. Additionally, as other reviews mentioned, the key to the room would sometimes cease to work, which happened to us twice. This was incredibly inconvenient, particularly after a long day when we wanted to freshen up and relax. All in all, we felt that cost-cutting had been done, and for this price they could have done much better. Nevertheless, credit must be given to the helpful service from the front desk. If other options were available at a similar cost, we wouldn't stay here again. Paying £20-30 more per night would probably mean staying somewhere nicer. There would be room for improvement.
We stayed here for 6 nights and had a great time! The accommodations were incredibly clean and comfortable, offering no frills but great value. We were in town for Primavera Sound and the Spanish GP, and the easy transport connections were a real plus with three train stations within walking distance. Breakfast at the hotel was good with hot and cold options, plus their mini croissants were a hit! Shopping was also easy with a big supermarket next door and a center with fast food, sushi, and more. We also didn’t know there was a public lido nearby - that would have been fun had we known in advance. Even the staff were friendly and helpful each day. All in all, this place was a great option, even if it was a bit out of the way.
