Mesón Castilla Atiram Hotels

The hotel exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the furniture looked brand new, and everything was impeccably clean. The breakfast options were excellent and diverse, with refreshing natural juices, fresh fruits, and delicious pastries. An added bonus was the luggage storage service, which came in handy for us.

The hotel I stayed in was the worst I've ever encountered during my travels in Europe. It was a disgrace to the beautiful city of Barcelona. The photos advertised online were clearly not genuine. To make matters worse, I had reserved a single room, but was given a disgustingly small room without a window. It felt like a prison cell and I was extremely disappointed. Eventually, I was given a slightly bigger room with a curtain, but upon opening it, I realized there was no real window - just a tiny one tucked away in the corner. It was obvious that the hotel was taking advantage of tourists. On top of that, the staff were unhelpful and rude, and hardly anyone spoke English. As a Greek, I was embarrassed to learn that Queen Sofia is of Greek descent, especially when compared to the behavior of the locals.

We had a very pleasant experience during our stay! The shower had excellent water pressure and an abundant supply of hot water. The blackout curtains were a nice touch and the air conditioning worked well. The hair dryer provided was also of good quality. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. The only issue was that when housekeeping came to clean our room, they did not put everything back in its original place after we had moved a few things for our stay. The bathroom was on the smaller side, but the sink was surprisingly spacious, allowing two people to brush their teeth at the same time. Our room even had a lovely terrace which we thoroughly enjoyed. Other amenities we appreciated were the fridge and the option to have breakfast at an additional cost. For those in need of an airport shuttle, the hotel offers one. Requesting a room near a water station is a great idea. The hotel also has a secure entrance, requiring guests to be buzzed in. As for the location, it couldn't be better! However, there were a few minor downsides. The bathroom could have used more storage options, such as a hook on the back of the door, additional shelves in the shower, and space for toiletries under the sink. Also, with only one mirror in the bathroom, it would have been convenient to have a full length one on the door and a makeup mirror at the table. Lastly, there was no iron or safe in the room.

This place had great potential for a 5/5 experience due to its superb location, lovely ambiance and availability of parking. Unfortunately, the rooms were incredibly noisy. Not from outside noise, but due to very thin walls which allowed us to hear every single sound coming from our neighbors’ rooms. Over the two nights we were there, we were woken up an average of four times as people talked, sneezed, and carried on phone conversations at random hours (midnight, 0230, 0400, 0600). And when the cleaning was done at 0800, it was almost like they were in our own room due to the volume! All in all, this could have been a great hotel had it not been for the loudness of the rooms.
