The accommodation I stayed at was truly horrible. I was subject to mistreatment and held to ransom financially due to making complaints about the standard of the room. Not only did it not have air conditioning as advertised, but there was only one socket available which had to be used to either fan the room or charge any electrical items. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable and the bathroom was dirty and filthy. Do not go there!
Good points: ?extremely central (just off the Rambla), less than a minute walk to Liceu metro, room clean and adequate, nice rain shower in the bathroom, staff very nice. ?But.... it was very noisy at night, not from the street but from the other guests. The walls were very thin. ?I was in Barcelona for work for a couple of days and was kept awake most of both nights by people chatting loudly in the next door room. Also someone was smoking pot one night too. This was not the fault of the staff, who were lovely when I complained at five am one morning. ? So in conclusion, great if you’re a party animal or a heavy sleeper, but if you’re in Barcelona for work, don’t even think about it!.
I stayed at Hotel Palermo for four nights in August. The location is fantastic, located just a minute walk away from La Ramblas and close by the Plaça Reial. Although the pictures posted on the booking websites of their high-quality rooms seemed lush and comfortable, my room was small and the condition of the room was quite worn. But the lobby of the hotel was charming and the roof terrace was a great bonus. Unfortunately, it wasn't accessible for two of the four nights of my stay. Barcelona is an expensive city to stay in, and the 75 GBP per night price tag of the Hostal Palermo doesn't excuse the basic facilities and small rooms that offer so little comfort. Still, given the location, I think the room was a good value.
The staff at Hotel Palermo needs serious improvement. I stayed on the 7th of March and was incredibly disappointed with the service I was given by the man with glasses. He caused a huge commotion without giving me any explanation, he wouldn't allow me to see my friends' room but he let everyone else go in, which I found very unfair. Unfortunately, this was the worst customer service I've experienced in all my 3 years in Barcelona. This man needs to be removed from his position - he has no idea how to handle customers.
Stayed at Hotel Palermo for 3 nights and it was great value for money! Location was perfect, just off La Rambla, so accessing all the area attractions was easy. Room was small but clean and comfortable and there was absolutely no noise from outside. The transfer to and from the airport worked out great and cost just £20 return with HolidayTaxis - the drop off point to the hotel was right around 500 metres away. Overall it was a great experience and a cheap but cheerful hotel.
