I stayed at Expo Hotel Barcelona recently and when I entered the lobby I was pleased by the smell - it was modern and clean. The reception staff were friendly, so I gave it 2 stars. But when I got to the room, it was so outdated and the bed was very basic. Everything needs a huge renovation! The noise level was also quite high and in the middle of the night you could hear furniture being moved around. I had planned to stay there for a few more days, but this experience was just too uncomfortable and I decided to move to another hotel. Such a shame!
On the plus side, it was central and, if price is your only concern, then it will do the job.
Meet the Ryanair of the hotel industry. The room was quite basic, no ironing board or bathrobes. Plus, the bathroom was dirty - there was still rubbish from previous customers and only one towel for two of us! However, the location was great and the value for money is unbeatable. We were charged €10 for our luggage storage after check-out, which was annoying, but if you're on a tight budget this could be a great option.
I stayed at Expo Hotel for two nights, expecting a 4 star experience. Much to my dismay, the room was cramped and dated - with only one plastic chair and faded, rusty bathroom fittings. The walls were bare with not even a framed print, though there was a small balcony, although you could barely squeeze a single chair past the bed which blocked the balcony doorway. On the plus side, there was an abundance of hot water and an excellent breakfast served in a pleasant dining area with lovely views. I cannot comment on the value for money because my stay was part of a package deal. However, the advertised rate of 103 euros per night is far too much for this place. All in all, very disappointing.
