I had an excellent experience staying at the Occidental Atenea Mar - Adults Only Hotel in Barcelona. The location was perfect, offering a balance of tranquility and beautiful sea views, while also being just a short trip away from the bustling nightlife scene.
The hotel's food was delicious, with the Club sandwich being a standout example. I also appreciated the proximity of some fantastic restaurants serving steak, tapas, and other dishes, which I highly recommend.
The only minor drawback was the small size of the pool, which would have been even more enjoyable if it were slightly bigger. However, the friendly and welcoming staff made up for it with their impeccable service.
This hotel is a convenient choice for business trips, located close to the CCIB. The establishment boasts a contemporary and well-maintained environment, with all essential amenities for a comfortable stay. The staff was welcoming and attentive during my visit, and the breakfast options were satisfying. On top of that, it is in close proximity to the beach, making it perfect for an early morning stroll to catch the sunrise.
During our stay, we were disappointed to find out that the pool was not open, despite being told upon arrival that it would be available the next day. To make matters worse, we were informed upon check-out that we would have to pay an extra 40 euros for a "city tax" that we were not aware of. When we went to withdraw the money from an ATM, the staff member attempted to charge it directly from our bank account, even though we had clearly stated our intention to withdraw it. Our experience with the staff was unpleasant overall, and the limited services, lackluster restaurant and bar, and far location from any worthwhile attractions left us feeling dissatisfied. Considering the price we paid, we could have easily found a more affordable hotel without a pool.
Upon arrival at the hotel, I was taken aback when I was asked about my sexual orientation during the check-in process. I was then directed to another hotel nearby. The receptionist informed me that they usually have a designated section for "people like me," but it was booked for a R Kelly fan event. I was not offered a refund and have been charged multiple times for city tax. Overall, my experience was disappointing and I would not recommend staying here.
The hotel's location was quite convenient, being close to the beach and easily accessible to the city center. However, I was disappointed with the bed sheets as they had some stains on them. It made it rather difficult for me to sleep comfortably. I even have some photos to prove it. Aside from that, the location itself was pleasant, with a great swimming pool and friendly staff.
