Axel Hotel Barcelona - Adults Only

I was so impressed by the show hosted by Wayu Queen! I definitely recommend it and would love to come back if it's possible. It was great to listen to the music and to meet people from all over the world in such a beautiful atmosphere.

If you were to scroll through reviews about this particular accommodation, you would find several reports from me. Obviously I'm a regular returning guest here and by now that is already some fifteen years visiting two/three times a year. That should give you an indication why I keep coming back! True, the city of Barcelona in itself is a worldwide top of the bill destination for the city trip traveler. But why specifically choose this place out of the numerous other hotel options? Let me tell you why … The location: Vivid neighborhood though not hectic. Small shops and restaurants. Open minded, chill and accepting atmosphere. Right in the middle of a trendy area. The district it is situated in is next to hip El Raval, touristic hotspot Barrio Gotico and chic Gracia while the alternative scene of El Borne is only one district further away. Perfect starting point for thirty minutes sightseeing walks, every time in a different direction: La Rambla, Passeig de Gracia, Plaza Espana, Sagrada Familia or the beach to name a few. You did read my previous reviews, right? So let me keep this time the following topics short: Ambiance: Classy with a strong touch of gaiety. Room: Simple, stylish and efficient. Housekeeping: Staff deserves exceptional compliments for work and friendliness. Rooftop: Plunge pool, jacuzzi, sunbeds and umbrellas, bar (daytime only). Bar: Chill & Chat on the 7th floor (evening/night). Gym: By hotel standards pretty well equipped. Greetz to Santi. Breakfast: Varied and cozy - the perfect way to get in a good mood for the rest of the day. Staff: I have written it in my previous reviews and I say it again: at the end of the day it is the people who make the experience memorable. Advice: walk in and out as many times as possible and enjoy the front desk crews ever smiling faces and their: “Hola, que tál?”. Thank you Asier, Dani, Roberto, Douglas and Vasy. Special thanks to Daniel (rock in the surf since so many years) and Jorge (managing the place so well). There is just one terrible thing about this place that I don’t like at all: checking out … ! So now already I am planning my next stay … ….

Axel Hotel Barcelona & Urban Spa- Adults Only is part of the gay chain of Axel hotels, offering an experience that is "heterofriendly". The hotel is perfectly located in the center of the iconic "Gaixample" gayborhood, surrounded by plenty of gay stores, restaurants and bars. The exterior of the hotel is nothing short of stunning, built in the Barcelona Exiample neighborhood Modernism style and finished with ornate wrought iron. Inside, the hotel is modern, but the rooms may need a refresh. One great feature of the rooms is the see-through walk-in rain shower with a hose. The rooftop pool and Sky pool deck lounging area is unfortunately a little small, but with so much to explore in Barcelona, who has time for a pool dip? Sky Bar, which is one floor below on the 7th floor, is inside and outside and has beautiful views. The front desk staff is mostly helpful and pleasant; however, there are a few with too much attitude, so if you need assistance, a separate concierge might be better to ask. All in all, Axel Hotel Barcelona & Urban Spa- Adults Only is a good hotel that could become great to match the vibrancy of the gayborhood.

The staff at the Axel Hotel Barcelona & Urban Spa- Adults Only were ? so friendly from the moment we arrived. Every time we ?‍♂️ through the lobby they said hello and wished us a ? day. The hotel was ? spotless, the room was ? and everything worked ? as expected. On top of that, the location was ?, situated perfectly in the city.

I stayed at the Axell BARCELONA for 15 nights in June 2023 - Travelling solo ? Location Perfect lcoation – the hotel is the in hart of the EIXAMPEL district of the city. Major subway and railway lines are within walking distance with the Univesritat & Passeig de Gracia Subway stations (and Railway station - Passeig de Gracia) connecting you to all the major subway lines as well as the rail connection to the rest of Catalonia region including Sitges which is only 40 minutes away by train. The hotel is surrounded by shops and bars with plenty of food and drink as well ??as shopping options. The Night Barcelona, Boys BCN and Boyberry venues are within walking distnace. Major shopping options of Placa de Catalunya and Placa de Espanya are within 1 kilometre. Overall I would rate the location 5/5 ? Customer Experience The customer experiance at Axell Barcelona was outstading. All the reception staff are very friendly, chatty and helpful especially Roberto and Douglas. Both made me feel very welcome. The others were just as welcoming however I think the language barrior probably made it more difficult for them to engage as I only spoke English (I cannot speak Spanish). Similarly, all the cleaning staff always had a smile on their face ?and made guests feel special and welcome. The Rooftop (Daytime) bar staff also desrve credit, they were both always welcoming and made conversation. Unfortunatly, I found the Skybar (night) staff less welcoming. During my 2 week stay I only went to the Skybar twice as I didn’t find the staff welcoming. Finally, I was staying there during my birtday and as a loyal Axell user, I was woken up by Daniel (the Hotel Manager) on my birthday who came to my door with helium filled ballons ?and a card wishing me a happy birthday. A very pleasant surpise. The customer experiance during my two weeks was one of the best I have experianced during my travels and definitely the best I have had at Axell hotels (I have stayed at Axell Berlin, Axell Maspalomas, Axell Madrid) but Axell Barcelona definitely tops the list. Overall I would rate the Customer Experience 4.5/5 ? Rooms & Services The bedooms are spacious and have all the necessites needed including a kettle. The bed is comftorable and the pillows are soft and perfect to help you sleep. My room faced the back rather than the front however I prefered the rooms at the back as I could open windows fully. During my stay I became familier with the different rooms and next time if I go to Barcelona and stay at Axell, ideally I would be looking to stay in rooms 218, 219 or 220 as the extra is you get a garden space to relax in. The hotel was very clean. The gym has a decent gym which is free to use but the steam room, sauna and heated indoor pool is Euro15 per hour. The rooftop has a jacuzzi, small pool and around 10 sunbeds. It can get very busy by 1pm especially at the weekends and you could end up hanging around for a sunbed for hours. The Rooftop bar is also open to non-guests so anouther reason it can get very busy and noisy. So if you’re looking for somewhere to sunbathe and relax, this may not be the ideal lcation. Weekdays, it wasn’t as bad. Considering the hotel prices an average of £150 per night, the hotel should consider making the Spa and wellness centre free to all guests. Overall I would rate the Rooms, Services and Facilities 3.5/5 ? Value for Money – Overall I would rate the hotel 3.5/5 when it comes to value for money largely down to the reasons quoted. ….
