Hotel 1898
About
Historical atmosphere and harmony
On the city centre (the Ramblas) Hotel 1898 is another of our favorite hotel in Barcelona. 1898 was known as the Palace of the Marquess of Comillas. From this glorious past it kept a rich historical atmosphere and harmony. We love its sunny terrace with pool, large rooms, a restaurant by chef Carles Boronat, a beautiful spa. No hesitation..
Plaza Catalunya is just 200 metres from 1898 Hotel. Guests can also walk to the Gothic Quarter with its cathedral in 10 minutes.169 Rooms!

I surprised my wife with a stay at this hotel in the Colonial Suite for the last night of our honeymoon. It was easily the most luxurious hotel experience either of us had ever had. The hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly. We were both surprised to find not one but two bottles of cava along with a fruit platter and chocolates with a congratulatory card for our honeymoon from the hotel. We very much enjoyed the private terrace pool overlooking La Rambla. Overall it was an exceptional place to stay and we highly recommend it.
Our recent stay at this accommodation unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. The air conditioning in the gym was broken for four days, making it as hot as a sauna inside. The reception staff seemed unfriendly and unwilling to interact, in stark contrast to the friendly and helpful breakfast staff. The bed was very comfortable, however the sound of the metro running beneath us could be heard all through the night.
This hotel truly impressed me. Everything inside was simply luxurious. The beds and linens were of an exquisite quality, while the service, cleanliness, and spa were all five-star. The omelettes at breakfast were especially delightful. In all honesty, I almost wanted to move in! The only thing I regret is that the television only had limited channels from the UK, but this wasn't a deal breaker. All in all, an excellent experience.
A fantastic property - top of the line but with a soothing ambience - amazing terrace bar and swimming pool. A great wine-tasting experience and cocktail-making workshop - much appreciated, Marcos. Couldn't recommend it more. Directly on Las Ramblas, so you get the feel of the area, but it's still very tranquil and comfy.
Due to a packed travel itinerary, my stay at this hotel was a very short one. Despite this, the team there provided me with an extremely professional service. The size of the room was very reasonable for the price I paid. The only downside was the noise and shaking walls coming from the underground train until midnight. In my haste to meet a taxi at the lobby after changing my flight, I left a significant amount of US dollars in the room safe. Worried, I contacted the hotel as soon as I realized my mistake and was reassured that my money would be retrieved and sent back to me. Despite the Fourth of July holiday causing a delay, along with communication issues with UPS, I was eventually reunited with all of my cash. To find integrity in such a situation is heartening, and I would like to give special thanks to the hotel staff for their honesty.
