Hotel 1898
About
Historical atmosphere and harmony
On the city centre (the Ramblas) Hotel 1898 is another of our favorite hotel in Barcelona. 1898 was known as the Palace of the Marquess of Comillas. From this glorious past it kept a rich historical atmosphere and harmony. We love its sunny terrace with pool, large rooms, a restaurant by chef Carles Boronat, a beautiful spa. No hesitation..
Plaza Catalunya is just 200 metres from 1898 Hotel. Guests can also walk to the Gothic Quarter with its cathedral in 10 minutes.169 Rooms!

I absolutely enjoyed my stay at this hotel! The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly ?, and the rooms were fabulous and well-equipped ?️. The location was also amazing ?, and the breakfast was magnificent ?. Additionally, the rooftop views were stunning ?, and a great spot for both drinks ? and a swimming session ?♀️.
This hotel is a timeless classic. The atmosphere is formal yet sophisticated and the rooms are cozy and comfortable. It won't break the bank either, and being in the centre of La Rambla it's perfect for sightseeing; the area is home to a great selection of restaurants too. The hotel may not be to the taste of more youthful visitors, but if I ever return to Barcelona, I'll be sure to stay here again.
At first this hotel looked great, but upon staying there we were disappointed. The street noise was incredibly loud and we couldn't get our thermostat to work properly, so we had to rely on the front desk to adjust the temperature in our room which was not ideal. It got way too cold and way too hot and they seemed put off every time we called about it. If you don't speak Spanish then be prepared for a lack of help - we asked if they had subtitles on their TVs and they laughed at us when we called. Room service was also unhelpful when it came to getting answers to our questions about the menu. Ultimately, we felt like we were more of a hassle than a welcomed guest. We won't be staying here if we ever come back to Barcelona!
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was a great place to stay. The staff was warm and friendly, the space was incredibly clean and the architecture was breathtaking. The highlight of the hotel was surely its rooftop pool and bar. We can't wait to come back and stay here again.
Just left and had a very enjoyable experience in Barcelona. The city is stunning and the Familia Sagrada is something I will also remember. The accommodation was situated down a side street with easy access to shops and restaurants. There is a taxi rank right outside. We travelled on the hop on hop off buses that allowed an easy way to see the city although extremely busy and not always able to get a seat upstairs in the open air. Pros : the establishment was grand spotlessly clean. They have a strong smelling air freshener in the communal area that can be overpowering. The rooftop bar has a small pool and around 12 sunbeds so probably difficult to get these if you like sunbathing. The bar closed upstairs at 8pm and opens downstairs when upstairs closes.Downstairs bar closed att midnight. Thanks to Pablo for being entertaining and very helpful with wine choices . Breakfast is a feast lots of choice and some delays in replenishing but overall a really good experience. Front of house staff polite but didn't offer any information on hotel or amenities and on checkout did not ask if we enjoyed or if everything was okay. Room was cleaned daily and bed was extremely comfortable. We visited Barcelona to celebrate our ,40th wedding anniversary however despite emailing ahead to ask for a quiet room we had no acknowledgment of our celebration. The room was quite small and when I asked if I could pay for an upgrade none were available so settled for the allocated room which was disappointing. Overall the accommodation was well situated but just a few personal touches would have meant a lot.….
