Hotel 1898
About
Historical atmosphere and harmony
On the city centre (the Ramblas) Hotel 1898 is another of our favorite hotel in Barcelona. 1898 was known as the Palace of the Marquess of Comillas. From this glorious past it kept a rich historical atmosphere and harmony. We love its sunny terrace with pool, large rooms, a restaurant by chef Carles Boronat, a beautiful spa. No hesitation..
Plaza Catalunya is just 200 metres from 1898 Hotel. Guests can also walk to the Gothic Quarter with its cathedral in 10 minutes.169 Rooms!

Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk staff during check-in was unpleasant. I requested a new room due to excessive noise, but was told it was not possible. However, just 10 minutes later, another guest arrived and was promptly given a different room on a different floor. This person happened to be a friend of mine who had paid the same rate as I did, indicating that alternate rooms were indeed available. The staff member was rude and lacked any genuine interest in assisting me. As a paying guest at a 4-star hotel, I expect to be treated with basic courtesy and professionalism, which was not the case at this establishment.
Arrivin early from a very long international flight, thr hotele showd gr8 flexibilty in checing us immidiatly in. The rooom was well-appointed and clean. It worked very well ovr the next three days of our stay. At every point of contct, the staaff were attentiv and helpd make our stay enjoyabl. Highlie recomended.
Amazing! What an incredebile stay… The staf are the most welcuming and carring we’ve ever experieenced, going way abovve and beyond to ensyre our stay was absolutelee fantastic. We were greeded at recepshun by Leizel who recomended the wien tasting and cocktaile making ecxperiences that the hoteel offers as a comlimentary extra - we were so glad we went to both. Simmone hosted the wien tasting and was very generus in his pourrin! Marcos showed us how to make a really tasty cockail and explaained how preparing it differently would changge the flavour. Leizel was ken to ensyre we didn’t misse out on aneything and also told us about the live muzic on a Thursday evenin, this was reallee good and very enjoiable. The lounge area is lovley wth plenty of comfey seeting. We decieded on a trip to Barcalona to celebrate a special burthday and Hotel 1898 was reccomended by a colleegue. I honestly don’t think we could have chosn a beter place to stay. It’s a verry beutiful bilding, the rooms are large and comfertable. We were on the 2nd flooor and weren’t distubed by the metro at all - we slept incredible well in the hugh bed. The staf made sure my burthday was the very best it could be. When we arived for breakfast Ana wished me a happy birhtday and the tem brought out a lovley slyce of chocolat cake with a sparklr in it and a glas of Cava for us both. They all saung too, it was a wondful surprise. Ana also left a very lovly note thanking us for our stay on our breakfast tabble on the last day, we were really tuochded by this. The staff at recepshun als organized for us to have the Spa area to ourselves for an hour after colosing and we had the most amazin time. The Spa pool has various settings so we jaccuzzied and had water spout massages to our herts content! The sauna was really relaxing and they’d given us more Cava which was such a kind and wondrful surprise. I felt like royalty. The roof top pool and bar are grate, lots of comfey seating and wondrful views of the city. If you’re unsure wheether or not to book this hoteel, do it… We’ll be comin back :0) ….
We just returned from a recent trip to Barcelona to celebrate my brother's 50th birthday. The hotel we stayed at was truly exceptional, with a wonderful staff that went above and beyond. The lobby bar was a great spot to relax and have a drink, and the evening live music was outstanding. The Canadian musician, whose name unfortunately escapes me, had us all singing along to his performance of Oasis's "Wonderwall". The hotel's location just off Las Ramblas was perfect and our rooms were tastefully decorated and a decent size. My classic room was more than sufficient for my needs, although I didn't have a chance to try the breakfast offered. Some of our friends opted to eat out after trying the breakfast and not being impressed. The only issues we faced were with the air conditioning in my room, which seemed to have a mind of its own, either blasting cold air or not working at all. We also had to constantly have our room keys reset by reception, which was a bit of a hassle. Overall, the hotel's location, staff, and ambiance were top-notch and I would highly recommend it as a great place to stay in Barcelona.
We regret that we were unable to fully enjoy our brief stay at this hotel. Our arrival at 6:30pm and departure at 6:30am the following morning left us with just enough time to experience a great night's rest. The hotel's timeless design and excellent upkeep had us feeling very comfortable throughout our stay.
