Hotel 1898
About
Historical atmosphere and harmony
On the city centre (the Ramblas) Hotel 1898 is another of our favorite hotel in Barcelona. 1898 was known as the Palace of the Marquess of Comillas. From this glorious past it kept a rich historical atmosphere and harmony. We love its sunny terrace with pool, large rooms, a restaurant by chef Carles Boronat, a beautiful spa. No hesitation..
Plaza Catalunya is just 200 metres from 1898 Hotel. Guests can also walk to the Gothic Quarter with its cathedral in 10 minutes.169 Rooms!

The hotel's location and overall ambiance were greatly enjoyed during our stay. My partner's birthday was made even more special with the kind gesture of a thoughtful note and a bottle of champagne. However, there were a few issues that dampened our experience, such as the malfunctioning air conditioning, a clogged bathroom sink, and the lack of wifi. Despite a delightful in-room breakfast on the morning of November 15th, we returned later that evening to find the champagne still present, the breakfast service not cleared, and the bed unmade. It was a peculiar situation as we did not bring these concerns to the attention of the staff, leaving them with no opportunity to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, our short stay did not allow for us to address these matters.
During our recent 4-day stay in Barcelona, my spouse and I had the pleasure of staying at a charming, well-managed hotel. The staff were attentive and the service was exceptional, making our overall experience truly delightful. We were pleased to discover that the hotel was on the smaller side, which is something we always look for when traveling. An added bonus was that we didn't see anyone under the age of 21, which was a big plus for us. Our room was incredibly comfortable, with a peaceful atmosphere and cozy bedding that suited our preferences perfectly. We were also grateful to the management for allowing us a later checkout time, as we were heading off to catch a cruise. And to top it off, we were pleasantly surprised with a gift bottle of champagne, which my wife absolutely loved. A huge thank you to everyone at this wonderful hotel.
The hotel's location was ideal and the rooms were kept well-maintained. However, our particular room appeared to be situated next to the subway as we could feel the constant tremors, similar to experiencing an earthquake, every five minutes. This greatly affected our sleep quality, especially since the trains run early in the morning till late at night. Furthermore, we were disappointed to find out that the terrace was closed during our stay. Considering the high cost of the hotel and the allure of the terrace being one of the reasons we chose it, this was quite disappointing.
During our honeymoon, my partner and I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel. It was by far the best hotel we have ever had the chance to stay at. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable. The central location was also a major plus, as we were able to walk to most of the attractions in the city. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a romantic couples getaway.
