Hotel 1898
About
Historical atmosphere and harmony
On the city centre (the Ramblas) Hotel 1898 is another of our favorite hotel in Barcelona. 1898 was known as the Palace of the Marquess of Comillas. From this glorious past it kept a rich historical atmosphere and harmony. We love its sunny terrace with pool, large rooms, a restaurant by chef Carles Boronat, a beautiful spa. No hesitation..
Plaza Catalunya is just 200 metres from 1898 Hotel. Guests can also walk to the Gothic Quarter with its cathedral in 10 minutes.169 Rooms!

Our recent 3 night stay was full of luxury and comfort, immersed in the Old World charm. Our 1 bedroom suite was elegantly designed to the highest standards, in perfect harmony with the lobby, restaurant and bar areas. The dark red mahogany accents throughout the property added a touch of elegance and sophistication, starting with the in-room flooring. We couldn't help but admire the large black and white murals that paid homage to the hotel's late-19th century beginnings as a Philippine tobacco import center. The overall decor was truly a thing of beauty. We didn't have a chance to use the spa or swimming pool, but we heard it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the surrounding mountains. One of the best perks was its convenient location, only a few steps away from Las Ramblas. Despite its proximity to the bustling street, we were pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise, providing a peaceful retreat from the city. The hourly church bell chimes took some getting used to, but added to the lively atmosphere of Las Ramblas. This hotel truly stands out as a world-class destination in an exceptional city.

This hotel was a pleasant place to stay during our trip to Barcelona. Its location was convenient, being situated near the bustling La Rambla street. Our room was surprisingly spacious compared to other European hotels and the staff were top-notch. One staff member, Marta, was especially helpful in providing us with great recommendations, including a fantastic dinner spot for our group of 12 on a Saturday night. I will be sure to leave a separate review for the restaurant. The hotel's proximity to taxis, the Metro, and the hop on/hop off buses made getting around the city a breeze. We also enjoyed visiting some of the charming local bars and restaurants nearby. Overall, we had a wonderful time in Barcelona and would definitely consider returning to this city and possibly staying at this hotel again.
I recently stayed at a hotel in Barcelona and it was a great experience. The location was just off the Rambla, making it close enough to easily access but also not too close to the hustle and bustle. The staff were elegant and always ready to assist, and the rooms were kept very clean. The only drawback was the air conditioning, as it didn't seem to cool the room sufficiently. This led us to having to open the windows for a breeze, but unfortunately resulted in having to deal with loud street noise late into the night and early morning. Despite this, the overall experience was excellent and I wish we could have extended our stay.
The hotel as a whole boasts a stunning and pristine aura, all while being situated in a prime location. The hospitality of the staff was mixed, with some showing warmth and others being quite impolite. For instance, when we were in a hurry to make it to a show, we had to repeatedly ask our waiter for the bill and even had to involve his colleague, yet he still delayed. Despite there being few customers, he seemed more interested in chatting with other tables rather than catering to our needs. We did encounter some lovely and helpful staff, but unfortunately, not all. Additionally, our room never seemed to reach the desired cool temperature, no matter how many times we tried to adjust the thermostat. This made it quite uncomfortable for sleeping. In the end, our stay was satisfactory, but I am uncertain if I would choose to return.
